SJUSD Schools Open

Dear SJUSD families,

We understand you may have questions regarding our response to the challenges associated with the Fairview Fire. We know many of our families have been directly impacted by this tragedy. We continue to be grateful for the brave first responders working to contain the fire and encourage you to keep all those affected by this situation in your thoughts and prayers.

After careful consideration, based on the most current information associated with the Fairview Fire, including consultation with the Riverside County Health Department, SJUSD intends to keep schools open because we understand that families depend on:

--a regular school schedule to both educate and provide care for their children so that parents can fulfill work responsibilities and children are not left unsupervised

  --free student meals

--air-conditioned student spaces, using hospital grade air filters, to keep cool during these extremely hot days which includes a forecast of temperatures over 100 for the remainder of the week

--dedicated staff working across the District ensuring a safe learning environment for our school community

Until conditions improve, the District will adhere to our inclement, high temperature protocols which limit student activities to indoor spaces. For those seeking an extra layer of protection, the District will provide N-95 masks to students upon request.

With all of these mitigating factors in place, families who choose to keep their student at home may contact their school office staff to excuse the absence.

Thank you for your continued support.

Dr. David Pyle
Superintendent
San Jacinto Unified School District
