California Public Records Act (CPRA) Requests

The following are guidelines for accessing public records (non-student records) from San Jacinto Unified School District under the California Public Records Act, Section 6250 of the Government Code and other applicable Statutes and case law.

All such requests should be directed to the Superintendent's Office for coordination.

Contact Carrie Best, Public Information Officer at:
2045 S. San Jacinto Avenue, San Jacinto, CA 92583
Tel: (951) 929-7700 x4250
Email: [email protected].

Submitting Requests
All public records requests must be written on an SJUSD Public Records Request Form and must include the contact information and signature of the requester. Completed form should be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to the attention of Carrie Best at the address listed above. Download the Public Records Request Form, or obtain the form from the receptionist at the District Office.

Identifying Records
Requesters should provide specific information about the records they seek, including the department, office or school that created and maintains the records.

Processing Requests
Within 10 business days from the date the request is received, San Jacinto Unified School District will determine if the disclosable public records are in the possession of the San Jacinto Unified School District and notify the requester of its determination. In unusual circumstances, SJUSD will notify the requester in writing if there is a delay in making such determination. SJUSD may request additional information if the record request is not specific enough to permit identification. If the request is for voluminous records, the requester will be notified of any additional length of time it may take to process the request.

Public records in electronic form will be released in the format in which they are held unless otherwise prohibited. When the requested record exists in both hard copy and electronic form, the requester can choose the format in which the records will be provided. While SJUSD will disclose identifiable and existing public records, SJUSD is not required to synthesize, manufacture, or summarize records, (i.e., develop new records) in response to a request.

Inspection of Records
If the request is to inspect records rather than receive copies, once the records are gathered, an appointment will be made for inspection of the records. Records not inspected within two weeks of notification will be returned to storage or re-filed and the requester will be required to file a new request should he/she desire to review them.

Copying Fees
The district may charge the direct cost of duplication when it provides copies of records to the public (.10 cents per page).

Exempt Records
The Legislature has established that certain categories of records may be exempt from public disclosure. These exemptions balance the public’s right to access public records against the individuals’ right of privacy and the need for government to competently perform its statutory duties. A list of statutory exemptions can be found in the California Public Records Act, Government Code Section 6254 and 6275.
