September's "I'm In" Attendance Campaign

Some reminders of our district's attendance policy as answers to frequently asked questions:

How long do I have to clear an absence? Don't forget to call your school and clear your student's absences.  Parents have three days per board policy from the day of the absence to clear it.  We encourage all parents to call even if it is past the three days.

What is an unexcused absence?  Any full day absence or 30 minutes or more tardy or absence that is not excused per Ed Code 48205 is an unexcused absence.

Can there be legal consequences if my student has unexcused absences? Yes, the Riverside County District Attorney can file misdemeanor charges or issue a citation.

What is a truant student? A student missing more than 30 minutes of instruction without an excuse three times during the school year is classified as a truant.

Who do I contact if I have attendance questions? Please contact any school's attendance clerk with questions!

Why is school attendance important? Students with consistent attendance will have better grades, develop healthy life habits, more likely to avoid dangerous behavior and have a better chance of graduating from high school.
