SJHS IB Students Hold Visual Arts Exhibition in Redlands on March 26

The student’s exhibition will be featured outdoors at The Threshold Art Gallery, located at 18 E. Vine Street, Redlands. The DTR Art Walk is scheduled from 12:00 to 5:00pm, and features live music, food and displays at numerous galleries and art associations.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the students to be a part of a professional art show and to display their work to a large audience,” said Wanda Simchuk, San Jacinto High’s IB Arts Teacher.  “The Threshold Art Gallery has been very generous and helpful to our Visual Arts program,” continued Simchuk, “and owner/artist Aeron Brown will be sharing with our IB Students about being a professional artist and gallery owner, as well as how to curate their show.”

San Jacinto Unified School District first began their two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma program in 2014-2015 with 30 high school juniors, a program designed to provide students with rigorous education that meets international academic standards.  SJUSD’s graduation ceremonies in June 2016, showcased six seniors as Diploma Candidates and 20 other seniors as Course Candidates from the second-year implementation (first graduating class).  Students may pursue the IB diploma or a certificate in a specific area of study.  Research shows, regardless of an IB student’s background or socioeconomic status, they do exceptionally well at the university level and in most cases, perform significantly better than peers who did not participate in the IB Diploma Program.

Fifteen San Jacinto High IB seniors are participating in Sunday’s art exhibition, showing their creations after two years in the program.  Each student will display four to seven pieces of connected and cohesive art with curatorial rational.  For further information about San Jacinto High’s IB Arts program or the DTR Art Walk, please contact Wanda Simchuk at [email protected].
