Two SJHS Athletes College-bound with National Signing Day

It was an exciting event at San Jacinto High School on February 1, 2017, where two school athletes, surrounded by family, friends, teammates, coaches, and school staff, signed their acceptance to university offers as part of National Signing Day that occurs for athletic scholarships throughout the country once a year.

Elijah Chambers accepted his offer from Sacramento State University, to play football for the Hornets.  “We are small here in San Jacinto, but this is possible,” said Elijah to all his supporters in the high school gym during the lunch-time ceremony.  “I love where I come from,” he declared, as he shared his appreciation of the support and love he has received during his high school career.

Soleya Figueroa accepted her offer from Graceland University, to play soccer for the Yellow Jackets.  “I never dreamed I would have this opportunity,” shared Soleya with her teammates in the front row bleachers.  “I am very happy!” she said, as she acknowledged her father, coaches and numerous other smiling faces during the event.

Not only did the two students sign their offers as part of the ceremony, parents also signed as the audience applauded.  Congratulations to both Elijah and Soleya, for earning well-deserved scholarships to continue their education and love of the game.
