On September 11, literacy and creativity collided at Megan Cope Elementary when students and staff chose a favorite word and brought it to life through a unique costume. The annual imaginative “Wear A Word Day” filled the campus with excitement as words like whimsical, barista, procrastination, precipitation, viral, aloha, considerate and coruscating walked through the doors, sparking curiosity and smiles. A schoolwide favorite costume (Pajamas) conjured up many words including dream, drowsy, exhausted, sleep, comfortable and slumberous.
From silly and sweet to powerful and inspiring, the costumes encouraged students to expand their vocabulary but also showed how words can carry meaning, personality, and creativity. It was a truly sesquipedalian celebration of words!
