San Jacinto Leadership Academy student Zoe Zavala was honored as a California State Student Author during a special celebration hosted by the California Department of Education on April 6 in Sacramento. Zoe joined a select group of student writers from across the state, sharing an excerpt of her published work and highlighting the importance of literacy, storytelling, and student voice.
The event featured State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, Tanya Baker, Executive Director of the National Writing Project and award-winning author Sandra Cisneros who spoke about the importance of writing as a tool for lifelong learning and success. Student authors explored themes such as belonging, curiosity, and resilience, and were later recognized at the California State Senate.
