Suspicious Social Media Posting Not Credible Threat

At approximately 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, 2/12/17, SJUSD school officials at SJUSD initiated emergency response procedures when informed by San Jacinto PD of postings on social media that raised suspicions of a student shown holding fire arms.  San Jacinto PD initiated their Kids with Guns Protocol immediately and determined the postings to be a hoax perpetrated by the student.

“Our first step is to guard the safety of our students,” said Superintendent Diane Perez.  “SJUSD took immediate action to ensure no students or staff members would be at risk and fully cooperated with law enforcement.

“It is our responsibility to do everything we can to provide our students with an educational environment conducive to learning and free of disruptive influences such as fear-mongering and violence,” commented Dr. Spencer Holtom, SJUSD’s Director of Student, Personnel & Community Support.  “Our District has an Emergency Response Plan, which includes specific protocols for each school, even in the event of a causal threat of violence found on social media. By following the plan staff were able to take appropriate actions to contain the situation and ensure student and staff safety.”
