Volunteer Description and Application Process

Thank you for your interest in supporting the students and programs of the San Jacinto Unified School District. We greatly appreciate your commitment to our District.  California Education Code and SJUSD Board Policy govern the steps necessary for an individual to volunteer in our schools. Below are the Volunteer descriptions and application process.

 

Tier I Volunteer Description:

  • Assist a school site up to (1) time per month
  • Help in a classroom, office or at events such as Back to School Night, festivals, sport events and dances that are held on school site grounds
  • Does NOT include helping at field trips
  • Parent/Community Member that wants to attend ESL Classes offered during the regular school day
  • School Presenter or Guest Speaker

 

Tier II Volunteer Description:

  • Assist a school site unlimited times per year
  • Help in a classroom, Parent Center, office or at events such as Back to School Night, festivals, sport events,  dances, etc.
  • Help at field trips
  • Classroom observation

Please contact your school's Family Liaison (Elementary Schools only) or our new Parent Center that is here to help you with this and any other needs!    Click here to be directed to the Parent Center Page.  The deadline to apply to be a volunteer is on April 21, 2017; volunteer applications will NOT be accepted after that date.

NEW Tier I/ESL Volunteer Checklist and Application: 

  1. Complete the Volunteer Online ApplicationVolunteer Online App (English)
  2. Complete the Megan's Law Background Check Form found on the right column of this page. This form is turned in to the school you wish to process your application.
  3. Go to the school that you would like to process your application and submit your completed Megan’s law background check form and a copy of government issued I.D.
  4. Attend Volunteer Presentation.  Please see presentation dates in the uploaded attachments to the right.
  5. You will receive an e-mail notification upon final approval. You will then have your picture taken at the District Office for your Volunteer Badge.
  6. Once you have received your badge, your volunteer service may begin. All volunteers will receive a new badge.

NEW Tier II Volunteer Checklist and Application: 

  1. Complete the Volunteer Online Application. Volunteer Online App (English)
  2. Have a TB Test taken (valid for 4 years) or complete the TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire through your Primary Care Physician. Form can be found on the right column of this page.
  3. Request a Live Scan Appointment from the school you would like to have process your application.
  4. Submit proof of Live Scan (Fingerprints) completion and copy of TB to the school you would like to have process your application.
  5. Attend Volunteer Presentation.  Please see presentation dates in the uploaded attachments to the right.
  6. You will receive an e-mail notification upon final approval. You will then need to have your picture taken at the District Office for your Volunteer Badge.
  7. Once you have received your badge, your volunteer service may begin. All volunteers will receive a new badge. 

RETURNING Tier I/ESL Volunteer Checklist and Application: 

  1. Complete the Volunteer Online Application. Volunteer Online App (English)
  2. Complete the Megan's Law Background Check Form found on the right column of this page.
  3. Submit Megan’s Law Background Check Form along with a copy of government issued I.D. to the Personnel Department of the SJUSD Office.
  4. Attend Volunteer Presentation.  Please see presentation dates in the uploaded attachments to the right.
  5. You will receive an e-mail notification upon final approval. You will then have your picture taken at the District Office for your Volunteer Badge. All volunteers will receive a new badge.

RETURNING Tier II Volunteer Checklist and Application:  (In order for your status to remain active, you must submit a new application each school year)

  1. Complete the Volunteer Online Application. Volunteer Online App (English)
  2. Attend Volunteer Presentation.  Please see presentation dates in the uploaded attachments to the right.
  3. If you are due for TB renewal or if there is anything pending with your application, you will be contacted by the Personnel Department.
  4. You will receive an e‐mail notification from the Personnel Department upon final approval. You will then need to have your picture taken at the District Office for your Volunteer Badge. Volunteer service may begin after receiving new badge. All volunteers will receive a new badge.

Upgrading from Tier I to Tier II for the 2016-2017 School Year: 

  1. Complete the Volunteer Online application. Volunteer Online App (English)
  2. Have a TB Test taken (valid for 4 years) or complete the TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire through your Primary Care Physician. Form can be found on the right column of this page.
  3. Contact the SJUSD Personnel Office at (951) 929‐7700 ext. 4200 to request a Live Scan (Fingerprint) appointment.
  4. Submit proof of Live Scan (Fingerprints) completion along with copy of TB to the Personnel Department of the SJUSD Office.
  5. Attend Volunteer Presentation.  Please see presentation dates in the uploaded attachments to the right.
  6. You will receive an e-mail notification upon final approval. You will then need to have your picture taken at the District Office for your Volunteer Badge. Volunteer service may begin after receiving new badge. All volunteers will receive a new badge. 

SJUSD Student Volunteer Checklist and Application (For use by students in grades K‐12 Only):

  1. Complete the Student Volunteer Online applicationStudent Volunteer Online App (English)
  2. Parent/Guardian must go to the school that student attends and sign the application to authorize approval.
  3. The school of attendance will obtain Administrator's signature and approval and send application to the school student would like to volunteer at.
  4. The school student would like to volunteer at will also obtain Administrator’s signature and approval then send the application to the District Office for final processing.
  5. Parent/Guardian will receive an e‐mail notification from the Personnel Department upon final approval. Student will then need to have their picture taken at the District Office for their Volunteer Badge. Volunteer service may begin after receiving new badge. All volunteers will receive a new badge.

 NON – SJUSD Student Volunteers (Cannot submit online application) 

  1. Complete the PDF version of the Student Volunteer application found on the right column.
  2. Print the completed Student Volunteer application and take it to the student’s school of attendance for Administrator's signature and approval.
  3. Once signature has been obtained, take the signed Student Volunteer application to the school student would like to volunteer at for review and approval of that Administrator.
  4. The school student would like to volunteer at will send the application to the District Office for final processing.
  5. Parent/Guardian will receive an e‐mail notification from the Personnel Department upon final approval. Student will then need to have their picture taken at the District Office for their Volunteer Badge. Volunteer service may begin after receiving new badge. All volunteers will receive a new badge.
Students will not be allowed to begin their volunteer service until they have received the appropriate approvals and have obtained their District Issued Volunteer Badge. (Students are not subject to the TB Test, Fingerprints or Volunteer Presentation requirements)

 

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: April 21, 2017

The deadline to apply to be a volunteer is on April 21, 2017; volunteer applications will NOT be accepted after that date.
