National College Signing Day is an opportunity for community and school leaders to celebrate and support high school seniors who are planning to attend college, trade school or the military after they graduate.  The local event is designed to celebrate seniors from San Jacinto High and Mountain View High, and their commitment to complete their education beyond high school.

Inspired by our nation’s National College Athletic Association (NCAA) National Signing Day, College Signing Day is designed to coincide with the time frame that most seniors must inform a college of their plans to enroll.  College Signing Day is designed to reinforce that excellence in the classroom should be given as much pomp and circumstance as excellence as an athlete.  NCAA's National Signing Day is when high school seniors sign a letter of intent to play sports at a specific college.  Traditionally, players participate in press conferences to announce their intentions.  The goal is to mimic this excitement for ALL students pursing post-secondary education.  College Signing Day is part of the national Reach Higher initiative, which encourages all seniors to pursue their education after high school.

The SJUSD event will include guest speaker Marianna Vinson, a former SJUSD assistant superintendent of education services and, most recently, the former deputy director for the Office of English Language Acquisition in the United States Department of Education, Washington, D.C.  Representatives from local colleges, including Mt. San Jacinto College, California State University San Marcos and University of California, Riverside, will attend to celebrate SJUSD seniors. Seniors will participate in a signing ceremony and awarded a medallion signifying their commitment to post-secondary education.
